ACADEMICS
Ebenezer Junior School aims to provide a strong holistic approach, wherein the spiritual, moral, social and cultural values we espouse are embedded in every aspect of school life. We aim to foster and develop a caring community where everyone feels respected and valued and children are happy.
We follow the syllabus set out by the Zimbabawe Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. These syllabi combined with specialist teachers in the I.T., Music, Adventure Into Learning, P.E. and Sports Departments allow each child to grow into an individual who has been exposed to a wide range of educational, social and character building skills.
SUPPORTIVE EDUCATION
Children who need support in Mathematics and English, particularly with reading and spelling, will visit the Learning Support Department in small groups, for short periods of intensive tuition, during the week on a regular basis.
Our highly motivated and qualified teachers assist each child to develop their own unique strength of character to become a confident member of the global community within the discipline of the academic curriculum.
REMEDIAL DEPARTMENT
We have a functional Remedial Department. There are small groups of boys and girls from each grade who come to the Remedial classroom for a couple of sessions a week. This time is devoted to covering concepts that have not been fully understood. Games, whiteboard activities, physical objects, practical counters and a variety of other resources are used in these lessons to encourage the pupils to enjoy the learning experience and the subject matter.
Workshops are organised twice a term to assist teachers with their teaching; they cover problem areas and enable staff to share valuable ideas with each other. Concentrating on syllable work has made a huge difference in the teaching approach to spelling.
RESOURCE CENTRE
Hundreds of new reading books have been added to our expanding Resource Centre, allowing those pupils who enjoy reading to continue to do so at their own pace.
The Resource Centre prides itself on having some superb equipment for practical Maths and Science lessons. These include, but are not limited to, a Human Anatomical Torso, Skeleton, Magnifying glasses, Magnet sets, Volume containers, Distance measuring tools and numerous charts for display. There are files containing exciting ideas and worksheets for teachers to use to bring more excitement and practical ideas into their lessons.
